Overview
MoodTabs (“we,” “our,” or “the extension”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle data when you use the MoodTabs Chrome extension. The extension is designed with privacy as a core principle: we do not collect data for tracking, analytics, or advertising purposes.
Data Collection & Storage
What Data We Collect
MoodTabs collects only the data you directly provide or create within the extension:
- Name: User-provided name during onboarding (optional; used for personalization only)
- Theme preference: Your selected visual theme and theme category filters
- Habits & Streaks: Custom habits you create, emoji selections, and individual streak counters per habit
- Quick Links: Website names and URLs you add (up to 8 total)
- To-Do Items: Tasks you enter into the to-do list
- Notes: Text saved in the Quick Notes panel (auto-saved locally every 600ms)
- Achievement Progress: Your unlocked achievements, tab-open count, and daily streak count
- User Title: Calculated based on tab-open milestones
How We Store Data
All data is stored locally in your browser using Chrome’s storage API (chrome.storage.sync). This means:
- Data never leaves your device unless you enable Chrome sync
- You have full control; deletion is as simple as clearing extension data
- No backend servers collect or retain your information
If you enable Chrome sync in your browser settings, your data may sync across your Chrome-signed-in devices via Google’s encrypted sync infrastructure. See Google’s privacy policy for details.
External Services & Third-Party Data
The extension makes limited external requests for non-personal features:
Weather Display
- Service: Open-Meteo API + IP-based geolocation
- Data sent: Your approximate location (country/region level) via IP address to determine weather
- Purpose: Display weather conditions and location in the widget
- No PII: No personal information is sent; only country/continent inferred from IP
- Privacy: Open-Meteo does not track or retain request data for user profiling
Website Icons (Favicons)
- Service: Google Favicon service
- Data sent: URLs of websites you add to Quick Links
- Purpose: Fetch and display site icons next to your links
- Note: This is a standard service used by most browsers and extensions
Fonts
- Service: Google Fonts API
- Data sent: Browser makes a request to load Inter and JetBrains Mono fonts
- Purpose: Apply consistent typography to the extension interface
- No tracking: Google Fonts loads without persistent tracking for this use case
What We Do NOT Collect
MoodTabs does NOT:
- Collect browsing history or monitor your web activity
- Track user behavior or keystroke patterns
- Gather analytics or usage statistics
- Sell, rent, or share your data with third parties
- Display advertisements or use advertising networks
- Require account creation or login
- Transmit your notes, habits, links, or personal content to external servers
Permissions Justification
MoodTabs requests only the “storage” permission to save your preferences and progress locally. We do not request permissions for:
- Tab access or browser history
- Scripting other pages
- Network activity monitoring
- Clipboard access
- Identity or location data
Your Rights
You have full control over your data:
- Access: All your data is accessible within the extension interface
- Delete: Clear all extension data anytime via Chrome Extensions settings
- Export: Your data is stored in standard browser storage format
- Portability: Your habits, links, and notes can be manually exported by you
